Burton Albion boss Paul Peschisolido says he missed out on signing keeper Artur Krysiak because the club could not match the terms offered by Exeter.The 20-year-old spent last season on loan with the Brewers and was offered a deal to stay after being told he would not be retained by Birmingham.
But the Pole opted to sign a more lucrative contract with the Grecians.
"We'd been negotiating for some time but we couldn't go any further," Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby.
"Artur was pleading with me to somehow make it a bit more because he wanted to stay because he enjoyed his time here and he was playing.
"But I knew there were other opportunities there and in fairness he has gone to a League One club and you can't really blame him. I wish him all the best."
Peschisolido will now turn his attention to other targets after ruling out veteran keeper Kevin Poole as an option.
"Our problem with Kevin is that he is 46 and the demands of the modern game are difficult," Peschisolido said.
"I'm sure he'd say he himself that he will not be able to play 46 games. I need to bring in another goalkeeper.
"There are three or four we are talking with at the minute but you have to wait and be patient."
