Exeter boss hails survival effort

"We've done our best, and we are what we are," Tisdale told BBC Spotlight.

"We have a set of cards given to us which is the finances of the club, the size of the club, and the playing squad and we've done our very best."

He added: "We're very proud of what we've done. It's been a fantastic year and you have to try and enjoy it because it could be a lot worse."

If Exeter fail to beat Huddersfield at St James Park their fate will be decided at Stockport where Tranmere need to better the result of Tisdale's men in order to edge past them in the league standings.

What will be will be. We'll do our best, rain or shine, we'll do our best.

With relegated Stockport losing both of their last two matches, including a 6-0 defeat by Huddersfield, Tranmere will be favourites to take all three points at Edgeley Park.

But Tisdale believes having home advantage on Saturday could be decisive for Exeter.

"I'd rather be at home than away," he told BBC Spotlight. "You can look at the upside or the downside and I'm prone to look at the upside that we're playing at home in front of our own supporters and that's where I'd prefer to be."

Exeter's last-day relegation worries come after a season of struggle in League One - their first back in the third tier of English Football for 15 years.

Notable results, such as January's 2-0 home win against Leeds, have been few and far between, and from late November until the middle of March they collected just two wins from 18 games.

Obviously I am hoping for a home win

Tisdale said: "I'm not inclined to look back and wonder 'what if?'. I'm inclined to say 'haven't we done well, haven't we improved greatly'."

Exeter's recent form does show a marked improvement on their mid-season slump, with just one defeat in 12 games.

And despite knowing that all of their hard work could come to nothing if they are relegated on Saturday, Tisdale is keen for his players to go out and enjoy the occasion.

He said: "What will be will be. We'll do our best, rain or shine, we'll do our best."
