Scarborough 1 Exeter City 1

BOTH goalkeepers pulled off a catalogue of impressive saves in a game packed with action from the start.

A 38th minute penalty pegged back Scarborough after Scott Kerr fouled Les Afful and Barry McConnell made no mistake with the resulting spot-kick, driving hard into the right-hand corner of the net to give Scarborough keeper Leigh Walker no chance.

City almost took the lead when McConnell latched on to a fine pass from Jake Edwards, but his shot was headed off the line by Kevin Nicholson.

Two minutes later at the other end, Martin Rice blocked a scoring bid by Tony Hackworth, then Steve Burton ran in to try to seize his chance but his attempt went just inches wide of the post.

Afful, City's man-of-the-match, was unlucky not to put them ahead with a 25- yard volley which was stopped with a finger-tip save by Walker, as Exeter began to look the more dangerous side.

However Scarborough proved to be on good form with Robert Gill twice having chances cleared, first from a header by Chris Todd and then a minute later his attempt was intercepted by Santon Gain.

It was a game packed with chances and good football, and it started after Scarborough found the net from six yards when Neil Redfearn scored his fifth of the season from a move started with a free kick which Edwards tried in vain to clear.

Scarborough's Nicholson was unlucky after the break when his shot was brilliantly saved by keeper Martin Rice, who found himself frequently in action as Scarborough struggled to find the elusive winner.

Both defences were at times at full stretch as the game gathered momentum, but even City's forcing of no fewer than four corners in immediate succession failed to produce a goal.
