Exeter City stretched their unbeaten run to six games in a battling display at Scunthorpe United.

Manager Neil McNab was happy with the point commenting: "I was delighted with our second-half display. I am surprised at how much football is played in the Third Division.

"Santos Gaia and Adam Virgo were magnificent and not many teams will come to Scunthorpe and get anything." His counterpart, Brian Laws, was critical of his team: "Naivety cost us the goal, whatever we talked about this week has not sunk in. It's a cruel game, we need consistency and to learn quickly. It is very disappointing." The Iron, forced the early pressure, Lee Featherstone drove wide when well placed and Virgo got in a solid block to stop the threat of Steve Torpey.

However, the Grecians had a shade of luck in the 12th minute when Ian Kilford broke through and his fine chip shot was turned over the bar by Kevin Miller and he repeated his heroics shortly afterwards when Matt Sparrow struck a firm shot.

Exeter's Sean Devine saw Tommy Evans spill a shot, but Andy Dawson hacked the ball away.

After Miller had pulled off a low save from Torpey's low shot, Scunthorpe took a 27th minute lead.

Defender Cliff Byrne drove a free-kick to Torpey who turned it straight down the middle for Martin Carruthers to swiftly despatch home.

The second half was a poor reflection on the earlier play, with Exeter working extremely hard to close down the home side and they grabbed a 74th minute equaliser.

Devine scored his first goal for the Devon side when he turned the ball home from close range following a corner from James Coppinger.

There was little of real note in this half apart from an incident in the latter stages, which saw Brazilian centre-back Gaia stretchered off with a suspected broken nose after a clash with Torpey, but after consulting his assistants, referee Butler only awarded a free-kick.
