Grimes blow for Grecians

Exeter look set to be without Matt Grimes when they host Oxford looking for their first home victory since October.

There were fears that the 18-year-old midfielder, one of City's best performers in recent weeks, had suffered a serious leg injury following a challenge from AFC Wimbledon's Sammy Moore in Saturday's 2-1 loss.

City's fears were eased when X-rays on Sunday revealed Grimes had not suffered a break or fracture. But the soft tissue damage he sustained looks set to keep him out for the visit of the U's.

Fellow homegrown midfielder Liam Sercombe picked up a slight injury in the build up to Saturday's trip and hopes to be fit as City look to end a run of six St James Park matches without a win.

Managerless Oxford will be without captain Jake Wright.

Wright will be sidelined for a month to six weeks after suffering a knee injury in the dying minutes of Saturday's 1-0 win over Torquay, a match which proved to be Chris Wilder's final game as U's boss before he joined Northampton.

Assistant manager Mickey Lewis will step in as caretaker manager at St James Park and he looks set to hand Michael Raynes a start in place of Wright, whose injury was not as bad as initially feared.

But experienced striker Dave Kitson looks set to miss out again with an ankle injury.
