"Steve is happy with his new contract and we're also quite relaxed about it," vice-chairman Mike Lewis told the Express & Echo.
"I think it's a matter of respecting the player's desire not to move on because, if he did want to offer himself for transfer, I've no doubt he would find another club.
"He does a lot of damage for us and there aren't too many players around who we could find to replace him."
